Katha Town
Katha is a town in Sagain Region, Myanmar, on the west side of the Irrawaddy River on a bluff with an average elevation of 124 m. Most of the town is more than 10 meters above the river. Katha is known as the real setting of George Orwell’s Burmese Days. Katha is 12 hours by rail north of Mandalay through the railroad junction town of Naba which is 23 km or 14 miles to the west of Katha. A small branch of railway runs east from Naba to Katha. Katha can also be reached by ferries that run on the Irrawaddy River between the upstream town of Bhamo down to Mandalay. There is also direct bus service from Yangon to Katha and Mandalay to Katha. Katha has a Tropical Savana Climate. Temperatures are very warm to hot throughout the year, although the winter months (December-February) are milder. There is a winter dry season (November-March) and a summer wet season (April-October). Katha is populated with government offices and many of the early town settlers were from every part of Burma and usually had background history of civil service under at least one of ministerial departments. The main economy of the town is fisheries and farming of kidney beans. Katha is known in literature as the real place underlying the fictional Kyauktada, setting of George Orwell’s first novel Burmese Days (1934). Orwell himself served at Katha in 1926-27 in the Indian Imperial Police.

Day-1, Arrival Yangon, transfer to respective hotel. Overnight in Yangon.

Day-2, Morning Yangon city tour, discovering the Myanmar Culture , Visit to world famous Shwedagon pagoda, visit Chaukhtagyi reclining Buddha image, National museum, Sule pagoda, China town, Botahtaung jetty, Bogyoke market. Sunset at Nanthida jetty. Overnight stay in Yangon.

Day-3, In the morning transfer to Yangon domestic airport . Then fly to Mandalay by flight. Transfer to respective hotel. Mandalay sight seeing , visit toU Paing wooden bridge, Mahagant Dayone monastery, stone carving works, Mahamuni Buddha image, gold leafs work sites, the Zaychodaw, Mandalay palace, Kuthodaw pagoda, Shwenandaw Kyaung. In the evening transfer to Mandalay High way station. Then taking the Bus to Katha at 05:00 pm. Overnight in the bus.

Day-4, Early morning arrive to Katha, check in to respective hotel. Rest at Hotel. Lunch at Local restaurant. Then sight seeing in Katha by car.Visit to George Owell’s House( very old colonial building over 100 years), the house of Commissioner ( Localized call The Red House), the Divisional Forest Officer’s house , the Tennis Court ( British colonial time), Old British Club, old prison, the old bell which was used and hanged at the ship of George White, Allied War Cemetery, The old Church ( Shinpaul Lu Ann Ga Li Kan ), The Rail Way of Katha and the old Golf Court. Overnight in Katha.

Day-5, In the morning breakfast at hotel, leaving from hotel about 07:00 am, drive to Fetsuttaung Elephant Camp by private car about one hour driving. Observation around the Elephant Camp area, then drive to Nabar village where to see the old Engine and life style of villagers. In the evening drive back to Katha Town. Overnight in Katha.

Day-6, In the morning breakfast at hotel, leaving from hotel about 07:00 am, drive to Inntaw Town about one hour driving. Then proceed to Manlae Village where to see the old religious compound and Incorrupt Body of Manlae Sayardaw ( Venerable Monk) . And then proceed to Takontaing village where to see the boat which is made only from one tree ( over 100 years ) and village life style, and then back to Inntaw town and go and see the lake of Inntawlay . There are many villages around the Inntawlay Lake where visit to Sayar Pwe who make the specialty of Myanmar Orchestra such as short Drum, Long Drum. Visit to the old Japan pagoda in Thetkelchin village, sunset at Natyaetwen village to see the natural scenic beauty of Inntaw town. The back to Inntaw Town and visit to wooden slipper production site ( one of the home industry) in Inntaw Town. In the evening drive back to Katha. We will arrive at Katha in the late evening about 07:30 pm. Overnight in Katha Town.

Day-7, In the morning free at leisure in Hotel, in the evening taking the line bus from Katha to Mandalay. Overnight in the bus.

Day-8, Early morning arrive to Mandalay. Transfer to Mandalay International Airport. Then fly back to Yangon. Check in to Yangon International airport. Fly to your country by late evening flight.
